Team Collaboration (Kurzweil and Thiel)

Theil concludes that as a society we are focusing too much on technology from a social and entertainment perspective. Science and technology started in the West but for the US it has stalled in its application to fields such as health, transportation, and energy. As a group we have come to agree with this perspective. Theil makes his money by investment in technology (namely Facebook). As a group we agree that investing in technology is a wise decision if the ideas seem viable and profitable. It was a risky call investing in technology but it did end up helping Theil in the long run.

Kurzweil is known for having a hand in promoting artificial intelligence (voice to text technology) so he has a pessimistic view of the future in his prediction that we will reach a point where technology cannot progress any further (singularity).  As a group we agree that the predictions that Kurzweil had could happen but will likely be prevented by societal and cultural hindrances (for example the expenses it will require to move over to different types of cars). Technology does hold promise particularly for the medical field and it can be put together with many other fields to bring about a greater impact for society if applied in the right ways.
